PLUS SIZE $200 DENIM WORTH IT?!

rhonda peterson

I received three pair of denim jeans (1 black and 2 dark blue denim) from the brand DL1961 Denim. According to the website, DL1961 is a sustainable denim brand using ethically sourced cotton, water efficient botanic fabric which essentially contributes to the $178.00 price point. I know what you’re thinking, are they worth it?!

The brand recently launched select styles in plus sizes up to size 26. I’m wearing the black Florence Ankle Mid Rise Skinny!

The Pros: They are comfortable, stretchy and fit over my big hips and calves. Plus, I’m totally into ankle mid rise denim right now! If you are hippy like me, size up because the fit does run small especially in the dark denim colors.

The Cons: They are a super skinny jean and fit very snug to the body. While browsing the website, the plus size collection is buried in the site which I find frustrating. The styles I received are low rise and button right below my belly button.

I typically gravitate towards high rise jeans (to suck in this belly) however, the snug fit against my stomach creates a muffin top:-( Y’all know I despise a muffin top! In this case, I paired the pants with a peplum top from Lane Bryant. Completely obsessed with this top! I am hoping as I wear the pants on repeat, they stretch more. I will report back later.

So, are they worth it Rhonda?! I honestly need more time with them. My first impression - the quality is impeccable! Very sturdy, well made denim. However, new denim is like a new friend at school you’re still unsure about. She gets the side eye until she shows herself approved.

I am elated that premium brands are offering plus size options! We have real jobs making real money and desire to splurge just like our skinny counterparts! I will be back with a follow up post on the performance and stretch.
